Digital transformation does not only change technology, but also organization, competencies, and leadership. HR plays a central role in this movement, yet the role is far from unambiguous. In some organizations, HR drives the transformation; in others, HR supports, translates, or follows along. This article presents five HR roles in digital transformation—not as maturity levels, but as different organizational choices. Choices that may be more or less deliberate, and that are crucial to an organization’s ability to translate digital ambitions into practice.

This article introduces a six-generation perspective on AI and shows how the role of technology, its benefits, and its risks evolve in step with organizational maturity. The article serves as an orientation and reflection tool for leaders who want to assess which AI initiatives make sense now—and which require a stronger foundation. The focus is not on specific tools, but on leadership responsibility, organization, and realistic value creation.
